iPhone....is it Just a Fancy Cell Phone?

Now, I am a Mac user, not because it's the "cool" thing to use these days...but because I like a computer that does not need maintenance every single upgrade. The latest MacWorld was underway in San Francisco two days ago, and something "revolutionary" has spawned out of the mind of Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs is the man behind Apple, and pretty much THE spokesperson for MacWorld. Everyone and their mother is going to be writing a blog post about MacWorld this year, and for one main reason...the iPhone.
Now, what is the iPhone? Here's what it looks like: image from http://www.sciam.com. That is an iPhone, and if you have not seen it yet, you must be under a rock. This product is suppose to "revolutionize" the cell phone industry, and has all the Macintosh/Apple fanboys/girls crying tears of joy...but is it just an old phone that can do new tricks? Perhaps it really is just that...but that is really up for the individual to decide. In my most professional opinion, this phone is going to be the best phone on the market, being over half a decade ahead of the competition. I really don't have much bad to say about this phone, since it appeals to people who use cell phones, and really to some people getting into PDAs. I despise cellular phones with a passion, but this one is hot. It has a touch screen specially invented for this machine. This thing has more pattents than all the U.S. presidents' combined....just kidding, but damn! Over 200 patents is enough to make you wonder just how much juice is running through this thing!
Okay, so it looks sort of simple to get into.....right? Actually, Jobs does not let his fanbase down, it has to be the easiet phone I have ever laid my eyes upon. So what does it do? Well, for one thing, it can make and receive calls. Now this little piece of hardware does not just do that....nope, it actually is a widescreen iPod...great huh? Well, this is where I sort of have my hissy fit. Since this is the ONLY wide-screen iPod to be coming out on the market....it does not look like you are going to be able to find an regular wide-screen iPod for some time. This piece of equiptment comes out next June, perfect for that holiday season that rolls right around the corner.
This phone seems to make you want to jump up and down for joy if you are an avid fan of the "smart" phone (although this is certainly not a "smart" phone, because it actually works...or so it is claimed) because it is: 1) an Apple product 2) Affordable for what it does ($499 and $599 versions to be availble) and lastly 3) it runs OS X, the major plus for anyone who could ever want their entire life in their pocket....and will allow for software for the iPhone in the future. Being a person who has never owned a cell phone, "smart" phone, etc. I sort of have an unfair bias against cell phones, and cell phone products. I like that Apple has chosen to line up with Cingular, but I still see past all the glitz and glamour to see....a cell phone. the iPhone can have wirless internet access, Google Maps, SSM Chatting, etc. but it is still a phone, and that is where Apple being known for their superior ability to have the best products on the market will not be able to boast. Cell phones are the annoyances of everyday life, they go off during classes, are quite rude, and have yet become an accepted rudeness in our lifestyles. Some people actually look at me and ask how being twenty years old, I surrived without a cell phone. I laugh and think how do they surrvive with one? Well, aside from despising cell phones, I will give credit to this hardware, bulked up Newton on steroids, and say that if I had to be forced to buy a phone, I would probably go with the iPhone. Nevertheless, I am not that impressed with it, but considering it is a first generation iPhone, i expect the next generations to be better, and maybe some of the bugs that WILL come with this one to be fixed. Sad thing about technology is that the day after this phone is released on the market, it is already old technology. The iPhone is pretty much a PDA that annhilates the rest, and will have Microsoft, Sony, etc. having to backstep a little and try to "climb a mountain" against Apple. Apple dominated the online music store, now they are going for phones, that is where the money is....and Steve Jobs is pretty damn smart for doing so, what kid is not going to want one of these next Christmas/Chanukah?? This year it was the iPod Shuffle, next year it's going to be the iPhone. if you want a good read up on this phone go to the source www.apple.com, or to www.reelsmart.com, an informative blog I've found on Apple and software products.
