Eats, Shoots and Leaves is a fun read for the punctuation clerics out there in the world.

Eats, Shoots and Leaves is a fun little book that has been out there for quite some time. If you have not read this work. I do suggest it for a stocking stuffer this year to the grammar fanactic in your family. This book does not teach much about punctuation, in that its actual purpose is to make you ponder just how ignorant we as a society have become over the use of marks such as the comma. We may not realize just how bad our grammar has become, and just how much worst it could get if we do not take drastic measures.
"Eats, Shoots and Leaves" is a very intricate read for anyone, and I do recommend it to the masses. That is the target audience that Lynne Struss wants to get to; those who do not use the punctuation as it was meant to be used, and may not honestly know how to use it correctly when writing. For example: when the movie "Two Weeks Notice" came out, she was there at a grand opening with a paper apostrophe on a stick, held above and between the "k" and the "s", where there was none.
This is just an example at how serious she takes to the use of grammar in the English language, and shows just how maddening it is for some people to deal with the travesties done to the language in everyday life. This is the sort of book you do not want to put down because it is like having an intelligent conversation with someone who is far more superieor/insane, (whichever way you look at it), and makes you question how you write. This book is merely for entertainment, but you just might learn something from the way Lynne Struss puts all things in perspective, and may make you beg for more at the end. You may not want this book to end as soon as it does, and would wish to read more of Truss's works.
Lynee Truss also wrote "Talk to the Hand", which is a book about rudeness in the world today, and just how insulting, arogant, and mean people have become over the years. It is another book you should definetly look out for this year.
