My Blog is hear to give you some thoughts on writing, reading, and give you some facts that may be weird, may be unique, or obtuse. Nevertheless, it will tie into the overall theme.

The Road to NaNoWriMo
Starting In late September, I'll be doing a series of posts building up to the ever-popular NaNoWriMo contest. NaNoWriMo stands for the National Novel Writers Month, and is a yearly contest at nanowrimo.org. The competition is a friendly, month-long critique and open community for writers to come together and celebrate the fine art of storytelling. The contest takes place the entire month of November, and ends midnight of December 1st. Registering is free, and easy. The competition has been going on for a long time, and is one of the more interesting writing competitions out there that has done more for the supporting of young writers than any I've ever seen from any college, or private contest.
This will be my first attempt at NaNoWriMo, and although the premise is quite easy: write a 30,000-50,000 word "novel" (more accurately a novelette or novella) in thirty days, then share it with the world. Sounds fun, but it's quite the challenge, and I suggest any writer to compete, and join a fast-growing community of constructive criticism writers. The website is full of information: nanowrimo.org, and it will also tell you the rules, and all lead you to Camp NaNoWriMo, which is like an online digital writers retreat that's free to use, and very engaging. I'll be giving minor updates in the next few weeks leading up to NaNoWriMo in November, and quick updates here and there during the competition.
I recommend you share your NaNoWriMo moments as well, and although it's fairly early, it's never too early to begin structuring your ideas for the "novel". I'm truly excited to be a part of this growing community, and as I learn more about this contest, I'll share more and more as we approach the start of the contest. Remember, this contest is more about helping out your fellow writers, but also spikes friendly competition. I hope to win NaNoWriMo my first year out; but it comes down more to time management than actual writing and that itself is quite difficult.
NaNoWriMo 2014 starts November 1st, but you can register early on and start getting in on conversations in the forums, and you can also donate to support the cause of this spectacular project. So if you don't know about NaNoWriMo, or if you're just starting out as a young, enthusiastic writer, this competition may be the thing that helps inspire you to write, and the growing community will help you stay on the right track.
