Those who know me know I am a bibliophile, the kind that goes out of their way to find an excuse to stay at a bookstore for insurmountable stretches of time, definitely overstaying thwt browsing welcome. Granted, I buy a ton of books as well, but even after several hours, I think even the nice workers there see looking to either hire me, or throw me out on my ass. I love to read, without books, I'd be less than nothing, because they are such a huge part of my life, and I may not read as often as I had in the past, I do go spurts where I'll read five books back-to-back, and then it feels like I've done too much. It's the balancing that is difficult for me, but I know when to pick up another set of novels, usually when I feel my writing ideas grow stale.
Yes, reading does oblige the muse, because it requires you to psychoanalyze what your being presented, as no book has a map...unless it's high fantasy, but even the little excerpt on the inside covers are not enough to guide you from start to finish. I find reading an invaluable way to spend time. Currently I am trying to stay awake through Machiavelli's The Prince, which was written as a gift to try to buy back the favor of getting back into Florence after being exiled by the Medicis. I'm not a fan of political theory novels, unless I can hold it to context, like Dante can be used to expand an entire time in a Florentine history. I digress, as Dante is really for those who admire the discussion on Dante. I could sit here and discuss The Divine Comedy with all of you until the next millennium strolls along, but that is not the point of this post. No, my point is that I'm well-read, and I've done several book reviews in the past, although not as recently, as I want to make sure I read the entire book ( what a concept!) before I post a review of the said book. The problem is that I've not read anything lately thwt seems blog worthy, especially since I've felt even the last several Chuck Palanhnuik books were absolutely garbage. There is not even room to debate or analyze the last few works, and that saddens me. Choke, Rant, and even Pygmy were multiple degrees of quality, but all had the ability to be analyzed. Even Dammned was, to me, just blatant shit, in-that it had no substance, it was written as though it we're designed to be smart, but turned out to be very pitiful satire. I read the book In one sitting, it took only a few hours, and this is a full-length book. It straightforward, and for many, that's a dangerous game to play in writing. It was predictable, and I wanted my several hours back.
Now the sequel Doomed has been out for some time, and I want to give Chuck a fair warning: you need to be carful what you put out in the next few novels, because it could ruin your already polarizing career. Especially when you have other writers, such as David Wong stepping up to fill the niche. (Yes, I know David Wong is not his real name, I forget the writer's actual name, but the point is John Dies At The End is proof that many great writers are out there who can fill the spots of these sort of pseudo-literature book.)
Moving on, I hsve put up some videos to YouTube for a segment called Malacast Plays, and it's about forty minutes altogether for the first playthrough. The next playthrough will be about two and a half hours, and myself, and co-host of EntroPhenom sre planning to do some live streams in the future, and have the EntroPhenom podcast up on YT very, very soon. The first game I play is P.T. And something odd happens at the very end that I'm sure someone else has had happen, but it was a first for me. Watch the end to see what it was.
Finally, I just wanted to say that I'll be making sure to put up more writing tips eventually, because I've learned some new tricks for those who can't write on a fixed schedule, but want to, so it gives those pele the opportunity to manage their time to near perfection, even if they work twenty hour shifts.
Thanks for reading the Malacast Editorial! Your continued support is always vital to the success of this blog. I'll be doing more E3 posts during the conference, or at least right after, when Sony, Microsoft, Bethesda, and Ubisoft do their press conferences.
