Still, I went from being a blog that reviews books, and on occasion I still do, and evolved to include most media, especially video games, because, well, I like video games. I love to read as well, I've always loved writing, and writing about writing. I feel there is no such thing as too much to say about writing. I've written over seven full-length books, one I co-published right here on the blog, although that wasn't really a full-length novel, more a novella. Still, a lot of people read it, and that made me happy, as did it my co-author, who has contributed a few pieces to this blog.
I've done so many posts that cover such different aspects if writing, digital media, and the blog has gone through several differnt looks over the years, but I finally added advertisement to it now, and it was a struggle to make that decision, but I am satisfied with the decision, as if give more credibility to the blog feeling like a legitimate website. Some posts I've not been a fan of, others I've felt are my best pieces, and obviously, the Mortal Kombat History posts.
For ten years, I've had my ups and downs with this blog, and for my years I've gone from one extreme of doing a multitude of gaming posts, to actual editorials on my opinions on such topics as writing, science fiction, nanotechnology, and television shows. Today, I tend to do a lot of video game reviews, and I don't mean to slack on the book reviews, but unfortunately, and like most people, I believe, I'm playing catch-up on the newer books, because unlike most reviewers, I read the entire book. Effort I give any honest review. I also like to review books that would coincide with the blog, and some of the books I read, are, quite frankly, not ones worth reviewing.
The amazing thing about this blog is the ability to always come back, despi only writing about three days a week, but each post is usually double the length of the average blog post. In-fact, many may be so much longer, they could be several volumes, but it's because I understand. I don't want to just read three poorly written paragraphs, I want to read about the subject, and is want to read extensively about the subject, because I want to read someone who has written with as much passion on the subject as I have, and that is the reason why I stopped the Preview-A-Palooza posts, because I counted them as bad ideas, and I didn't have the passion to write them, because they just didn't feel like a part of this blog. If you were enjoying them, I apologize that I didn't see it through, but that's what makes me different, because I saw the errors, and stopped them instead of making shit out of lemons.
Over 21,000 people have viewed my blog in the past ten years, and for me, that is stellar, it means people have read my work that much, and I am humbly grateful for each and every view. You, the audience, are spectacular, and have took the time to read my work, flaws, or no flaws, and I must say, for writing all of this on a touchscreen, I'm shocked most of my newer posts don't have more issues with them. Still, thank you so much for being a part of this blog, which essentially had no goal, no motivation behind, rather than just writing.
I started this blog on August 8th 2005 when I was on summer vacation at my uncle's house during the junior year of high school. Blogging was introduced to me when I was about seventeen, although I believe I turned eighteen at that point, and I was excited to be writing to the world. Where I normally lived, the internet was scarce, so a lot of the first blog posts I've done were either at local libraries, or at school, when I should've been doing homework/schoolwork. I had written a full-length novel at this point, which I named "The Divine" which was, looking back on it, a slipstream fantasy, well before I even kne what the hell slipstream was, but it is where I came up with the name Malacasf. Malacasf is an ancient god in the lore of my book. The book isn't great, but like most things I've done, it had potential for the time it was written. The book itself is also ten years old, and I was always wondering if I should publish it,smell it off, but I never did. I don't know if that was a good thing, or a bad thing, as my writing had gotten better over the years. I've wrote that 80,000 plus word novel in a few months. The last book I finished was 90,000 words about, and I wrote it in a matter of 13 days.
Anyhow, Malacast is a combination of the words malicious and cast, meaning maliciously casted out. The agent part is tricky....I originally stated it meant like a chemical agent, but in hindsight, I'm still not sure that's the actual influence for the name. The idea may have come from a discussion with my sister, and I don't quite remember the conversations fully, but it was childish fun. The whole thing sounded great, and I've always enjoyed that character, even though the book surrounding it isn't my best work.
If I could go back ten years ago, and say that this blog would be something I've done for ten years, and still have people coming by to read it, I'd have thought I was crazy. I'm happy at where I've come, and where I'm going with it, and here's to hoping the next ten years are just as memorable as today.
I've shared so much over the past ten years, and I've done a great deal of thinking in thwt time as well on the future of this blog. Do I want to make this something bigger? Do I want to make this site officially mine? I've had so many chances to make a blog that works for me, and works for my audience. Still, I've been limited by Blogger, despite the limitations being rather slim. So what do I do? Where do I take this blog from here? For ten. Ore years, and beyond, what do I do for this blog that makes it a valued source of information, or at least put in a better effort than the bigger names? I suppose I could make it go further than this, I could make it become something greater, but until that notion is realized: I'll do my best to bring you all better reviews, and great short stories. Personal editorials, and a mess of other new, and interesting posts to this blog.
For ten years, thank you for supporting the Malacast Editorial, it's been exciting to see this all come to be an amazing experience over the years. I can never thank my readership enough, and I promise something will be coming that will show that appreciation in full. I also hope to eventually get my co-host of EntroPhenom, Edgar Holves, to do some contributions for the blog. I also will do my best to watch out for typos in the future, as I'm starting to get used to writing most of these blog posts on a tablet.
As I've just mentioned, I will be having something big coming to the blog soon, and I cannot announce anything just yet, but on, or around the official date of the ten-year anniversary in August, I'll be sharing a host of special posts, commemorating the anniversary, and beyond.
Please continue to come back here for original short stories, reviews, previews, and my first impressions on new books, games, movies, and other forms of media, both digital and analog. Once again,,thank you for your support of the Malacast Editorial. Here's to ten years, and many more!
